Bass Fishing in Florida
I consider Florida to the Mecca of Largemouth Bass fishing in the United States. There are many places to fish in Florida. In this article I will describe a place that is well known and little known place that offers opportunities for significant fishing. I emphasize there are many different fishing lakes in Florida. When I speak of Lake Okeechobee, for example, understand that there are hundreds of lakes that meet same description throughout South Florida.
Lake Okeechobee is perhaps the most famous largemouth bass lake in the United States, she won this reputation by consistently produce a large number of very large bass. It is a very large lake, over 50,000 square miles! It is also a very low Lake. Much of this lake is less than 6 feet deep. These are actually areas that are often the most popular. I would guess that over half of the ten books or lower than I caught came from water that was 306 feet deep.
Fishing Lake Okeechobee can be a challenge, but very rewarding. You'll naturally want to find the shallow weeds on the lake. If your only concern is boating a huge bass Bigmouth, you might consider fishing with live bait. The bait of choice in this specific lake is the nature of Florida Shiner. They are available in most marinas bait shops / in the region. If you are going to target big largemouth bass, you will need a major motivating factor. Eight to ten inch long minnow allowed to swim freely under a float, or uncoated, is an impressive presentation. Understand that the bait large you need a great hook. Make sure your hook is sharp as it should enter the mouth of a very large hard fish. You need to use a big heavy action rod that has enough guts to put the hook on the back of the mouth of your career.
If prefer the easiest sport using artificial bait, you need your arsenal of gear for fishing in heavy weeds. Spoons Vibrating with topwater others are much more important to have in your box crankbaits and spoons. You need to be able to retrieve your lure through the cover when lying heavy bass. Again make sure the hooks are sharp. Vary your retrieve until what you will find the appropriate referrals. You will find some days when a quick recovery is necessary to catch fish very active. Other days, you need a much more slow.
The main thing you need to do is be able to read the water. In a large Lake Okeechobee as much of the water does not hold many fish. You must first be aware of your surroundings and seek areas likely to hold fish. You can often do so by simply looking at the water surface for the action. If you see schools of shoeshine and other small fish continuously break the surface of the water you can be sure largemouth bass are as much as me.
Look for points ambush and other areas likely to hold fish. As with any type of fishing, you must think like a bass. Look for areas that have sense for the bass to live. The key is to not spend too much time in a region that does not.
Once you find the points you must use lures like spinnerbaits, topwater lures and other vibrating. The sound is very important in these circumstances, I prefer spoons round blades that emit vibrations and attract largemouth bass through the sound and sight. A jig and pig combo is also very effective in this lake. You can bounce it on the artificial lake bottom with great success.
I recommend you use a guide for the first time you visit this lake. Be careful where he takes you for fish and ask questions. You do not just hire a guide to help you catch fish. You you try to learn and become a better fisherman learning and understanding the principles of the guide uses to make your trip productive.
South Florida has many lakes that are smaller versions of Lake Okeechobee. They can all be caught in a similar manner.
For a different location to fish for largemouth bass, I'll throw the canal system lake / Cape Coral, Florida. Cape Coral, Florida is known for its vast network of water channels both salt and freshwater lakes. You can literally jump right on your car and hook several hundred pound Bull Shark on one channel and at least a mile hook in a huge largemouth bass in a freshwater canal.
